    Meditation gone wrong?

Post  Violet on Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:45 pm

Has anyone had any bad experiences in meditation and if so what would cause it?

I am not very good at meditating,Violet.     But do you mean connecting with something or someone who is not very safe or nice?

I usually pick the sea or river to meditate on.   I get so far and my mind wanders.....just can't get over that particular barrier...

Same here Joan.   I start of with good intentions and then like you the mind wanders and I start thinking of something like what to have for tea the following day.  Absolutely useless at it

I have often thought there must be a way of holding the attention to the meditation in question.

So how do we do that?

Not so far...but I dont do it often enough.

Joan, try distracting yourself with bouncing back and forth from audio to visual in meditation.   Absorb everything to do with the scenerio.  The sounds, the sights, even the smells.  Every time your mind starts to wander off to something different just skip to a different aspect of it.

    Distract your distractions...

If you focus on your breath, you can not think.
You will notice your breath slows down.
Let it sink to the center of your body.
If your mind wonders, stay with your thought for a little and gently let it go.
Return to your breath. You can use a mantra, a word, with you focus on on your out breath.
If you don't know mantras, pick a work, perhaps a positive work.
And on your out breath  just let it sink to the center of your body.

    Thank you,Delef.

You are right.   It's taking in of the breath that is the problem.  I tend to focus too much on that.
Breathing in and out.   Once I relax I find my focus comes back on the meditation.

I'm going to practice this evening what you have suggested.....

    Cheers....:asmile:
