What if there was no afterlife?

Post  Violet on Sat Jul 31, 2010 11:04 pm

    First topic message reminder :

Suppose someone proved there was no afterlife how would this affect you, I don't mean regarding your beliefs as such, but would it make you more fearful of death?

The proof I've seen, and be given would blow the minds of many people. And would probably get the church mad at me. :giggles:

That could be the case with some churches but not the Modern Spiritualist one...

Would it matter if a church did get mad at you though?

Probably not. I mean, after all, most of the church thinks we're all a bunch of heathens anyways.

Others would just discount it as just made up things, or the persons mind is playing tricks on them.

There is a time every day when we experience what might be described as nothingness. timeless, blackness, a void, Well , I shuold add with the exception of insomniacs. That deep sleep that we experience in the first part of our rest. I do accept that even in this delta state, that some brain activty is recorded, but it is at such a low frequency, in fact it starts at 0hz which is indicative of absolutely no brain activity. but it does go up to 4 hz. In the 0 range it is in fact Brain Dead..No activity. Though autonomic functions liike cellular regeneration , breathing, circulation seem to take place . it is a vegetetive state, thankfully temporary.

If Death is like that, Then to me the prospect of such an inevitability ain't so bad.

I write all this in the knowledge of reports of visitational hauntings and the ability to expand ones consciousness to pick up on other consciousness streams, I also take into consideration reports regarding N.D.Es and the phenomena known as re in carnation.

I also expect that on some level , other than eye colour and complexion there is a genetic memory that we can access in much the same way as some suggest they get in touch with the Akashic Record.

So in dealing with this subject, which is conjectural, the very worst that happens in the absence of a belief system is that we can get to sleep in deep dreamless peace in perpetuity. which as I said, to me..Ain't so bad

I think,Ensii we all have that 1% out of a 100 of unbelief in us.

We question and want to believe (I know I do) but there is always a little doubt.

    We cannot help it!

Well, out of curiosity, and admittedly with a sceptical eyebrow raised, I did Google - I am quite happy to be proven wrong after all!

However, what I've found increases my scepticism I'm afraid.

Dr. Cardoso...Her doctorate is in Public Service. And it's also Honorary. The research she has performed has been done by the institution that she founded; The ITC Journal Research centre. The sources of the grants that have funded this research are not disclosed.

This instantly arouses my suspicions. I am also sceptical of the research - whilst admittedly I haven't read it in depth in my little Google session, the one thing that jumps out is I can find no evidence of peer-review by the wider scientific community, or any evidence that these experiments have been conducted elsewhere and demonstrated repeatable, accurate results.

There also the elephant in the room... If life beyond death has been proven, why haven't we heard about it? This would surely be the scientific discovery of the century, as we look for reason and meaning to life. There was quite a lot of news coverage recently when the 'impossible' happened at the LHC - So I think it would be given coverage.

Now... having said all of that - I do agree with the motto, "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". If conclusive proof comes to light - great. But for me personally - I've yet to see something like this.

emsii wrote:his passwords were totally impossible to hack
At the risk of labouring the point; There's no such thing as an *impossible* to hack password. Yes - some passwords that use random combinations of letters, numbers and symbols are very secure, especially when backed up with strong transmission encryption. They would take thousands of years to crack - Effectively impossible. But Facebook isn't so sophisticated. Indeed, by default it doesn't even use a secured HTTP connection. It's relatively easy (with a suitably nefarious set of apps) to 'sniff' a password if someone so wanted - Hence FB has a dedicated 'My account's been hacked!' set of FAQs. I also can't imagine someone using a 50 character password - Unless the browser had password caching enabled, it would be very inconvenient to have to type all 50 characters in every time! - I therefore restate my recommendation that you change passwords as a precaution.

life after leaving the physical body has been proven over and over again. just go sit in a physical demonstration and get your proof. but when your read what happened to mediums like helen duncan, not surprising doors are a bit shut these days to strangers. find where physical demonstrations are held, attend regularly to services there so you get known and trusted and ask to sit. that simple. iv sat many times and its been proven to me by loved ones materialising in solid form. i skimmed through the said article. im not looking for evidence of life after death. iv already got that many time over. i read with interest when new research comes to life. i am not here to convert anyone. if it seems like i bang on about it, it is only because it is so wonderful to have seen ultimate proof of survival with my own eyes that it can feel frustrating to meet doubters. may you someday find your own inner peace when you get your 100% proof. iv had many many times since 1989 when i first sat in my first physical circle and have sat many times will and will continue to. the life over there is more alive and more wondrous than the one we live here x

    Hello emsii,

There are those things that you know in your heart to be true and there are some things that you are not so certain about. This is the case for us all. What you regard as proven fact can be seen as not so by others.

Before proceeding , I should say that i am quiet able to pick up communication from discarnate entities and residual intelligences alike, No special Electronic equipment other than a Brain is required. This type of experience will take place for many of us , quiet noticeably as we are dropping off to sleep or as we are waking up. This is called non proximal hearing and takes the form of sounds and voices that you can hear whilst being nowhere near , physically to the source of the sound. I have even heard my own name being called and doors being knocked upon , so convincingly that I woke up to check that my attention was not actually required in my physical surroundings. This is the Theta Frequency of the Brains activity. The same frequency range that Meditators and Mediums adopt to open themselves up to free flowing and residual consciousness.

You will know already that consciousness/awareness is no respecter of the bounds of time or space, In fact we as individuals are hardly ever in the here and now. We find ourselves planning ahead, reminiscing , virtually all the time our minds are someplace else. This is further proven in dreams when all to often your awareness is many miles away from the brain in the skull resting on your pillow. In each case the brain is both the transmitter and the reciever. On physical death , these neural processes shut down and in many cases the awareness experiences what some call N.D.Es though Actual, death Experiences are more close to the mark.

The very fact that we can commincate, or at the very least recieve messages from consciousnesses other than our own is dependent on our having a brain. Without a Brain, how can there be awareness or consciousness ?

The reception through whatever means of non proximal message or thought does not prove that there is an after life at all.

I have sat both open and closed circle, worked the supper tables and done platform, I am also an experienced psychic and every one of these required the presence of my living brain and my ability to open up to all the other consciousnesses floating around out there. I have had visitation from people who still very much alive and well in the form of telepathy and materialisation. I have channelled long dead people and people who have not yet been born.

All of it requires my brain to be receptive. to these thoughts. Without a brain as an originating thought manufacturer there would not be a thought for us to pick up on. Even My Spirit Guide is residual intelligence. He gives me flashes of incite because my Brain allows it, but he being very wise knew all his stuff whilst he was very much carnate.

So then...Are Spiritual Mediums picking up on residual thoughts and conditions or are they talking to people who in some cases long since ceased to have a brain capable of thought, because the alternatuve being suggested here is that one does not require a physical brain to be able to think.

When Spirit come close to me, it' s always as they were when they lived and never how they are now.

    Best Wishes from the Lightseeker.

Yes , it's strange how that works.. My Spirit Guide should , if this is the norm , look to be about 200 years plus old..He dosen't of course. It makes you wonder how years are measured in non corporeal existence.. specifically how some "Spirits appear as young as the day they lived in the physical , whilst others apparently age in spirit. I wonder if that too is more to do with our perception than their energetic appearance/signature.

from what im taught, if they go young as a child, they grow in spirit to their prime and stay looking in their prime. and older people come back looking younger. though if you are not so knowledgeable of spirit or for any other reasons eg so you recognise them, they come back as you knew them so you recognise them. in my case i have knowledge of spirit and am aware he is in his 20s so he has over the years now come back at his age now (recent)

Post  Aura on Sat Oct 29, 2011 2:05 am

there are courses available eg Course A3 -An outline of science for spiritualists which introduces certain scientific concepts and their relevance to spiritualism, scientific methods, the nature of matter, energy and energy fields, brain rhythms, the psycho-physical bridge, the aura, the time-space continuum etc. these are available from the SNU to study and from churches. may help those who still seek to understand. i am personally planning to start taking the courses to widen my knowledge and understanding and also for accreditation. blessings x

    Hello mac,

The Boy was about 8 years old and stood lookng into my Wndow from the rear Garden at a House used to lve at n Stenson Felds Derby. The house itself was comparatively new ..post war buld n 1999. I was at my Ktchen sink. reached for my tea towel lookng away for only an instant to dry my hands. The Garden was secured with 6 feet high fence panels surroundng it. n the time it took me to reach for the tea towel , the boy had vanshed. He was looking at me through the Kitchen Wndow, and then he had vanished.

Another Little Girl used to vist regularly a house on Dairyhouse Road in Derby that I also used to live at which was slghtly older being built just before the turn of the last century. My Wife and a regular visitor at the time reported sghting her , I only saw her once or twice on the stairs. It may be that all of these were resdual. As I don't recall the cold spot that one experiences when visitations are bulding to activity.

I worked as a Night Porter at the Midland Hotel in Derby towards the end of the last Century and pror to that in The St Christophers Rail Way Orphanage (derelect and abandoned) on Ashbourne Road and further down on Friargate the Royal school of the Deaf (Derelict and Abandoned, now demolished ) I have encountered the Chldrens laughter.

In relation to the topic to hand, I suspect that these were residual encounters with the possible exception of the first when it seemed the Child in the Wndow was actually looking to see what I was doing.

I now come back to esmii, because I do recall a time when I received a possible confirmation of an intelligence working without a brain. I had moved into a house that had been modified and recall getting the impression during a meditation that the previous occupant was in something of a state of annoyance and wanted to know why the snk had been moved and where was it now. It was a distinct, "What do you think you are doing re arranging my home lke this".

I think my most proufound haunting occurred at Old Nottngham Road in Derby. This was a malignant Visitation wth a degree of both Poltergeist activity and something of a malicious nature in the respect that the Man chose to traumatised one of my Daughters. I saw most notably the Cat Ghost. The History of the place was somewhat chequred with the previous occupant being found dead surrounded by spirit bottles having OD'd on alcohol. It is and has always been of interest to me how emotions trigger hauntings. For example, f my Wife and I had an argument..as you do.. The poltergeist activity would begin , with objects being thrown.

I am gong on a bit ......I have been on a number of investigations and the whole subject to me as one of interest. So I do apologise for waffling on I should add as a foot note to mac that I had the pleasure of spending a wonderful evening of paranormal investigation at the Galleries of Justice in your fair City.

    To me as well,please.

Twice I have heard and seen in the past, the figure of a small boy, very vague, holding his hand out to offer me something.

Also hearing his small voice saying 'hello'.

I do not know who he belongs to but have a feeling he may be my grand daughter's child from long time ago.
