Fleas and nits and the like

Post  Violet on Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:30 am

What is their purpose in life? All they seem to do is annoy people, most bugs seem to have some role to play but not these as far as I know...........

We have to ask ourselves the same question, what is our purpose, we can also be a pest to this beautiful planet, this is why mother earth scratchers herself ever now and then in the form of earthquakes and other disasters. We think we are so special and higher than all other life on this planet and even in the Cosmos itself we arrogantly think we are the only smart beings. Most humanity is just a complicated disaster waiting to happen, so I thank the fleas and mosquitoes for their reminder of how we can be a pest also. :treehug:

What is a wasps purpose? Apart from spreading pollen around?
On the naughty side I suppose it's quite amusing watching random people break into funny little dances without music

Talking about nits brought back memories of school years when I was a kid!

Every so otten the 'Nit nurse' as we called her used to call and 'rake' through the hair with a very fine comb!
It embarrassing if she found anything.

No they're not, very stupidly, it is now classed as 'assault' trust me on this I have it on good authority, also thety are not even supposed to look closely at a kids head or even mention it if they do see anything to the parents, a non identifying letter is supposed to be sent out to all parents.

Teachers are not allowed to even hug children anymore, not even very small ones in nursery, even if they're hurt or upset, the world has gone mad

I could tell you more but it gets my hackles up, such as not being allowed to encourage them to say 'please and thank you'

i agree with everything you said violet, except the please and thankyou. the reason is i always believed it's the way you treat people and the world, not the words you use.
many people have told me how polite my children are, i guess they must have learnt from our example.
yes psycho, i think we do need reminding we're not in charge, i would love to live in a world without these pests and mosquitoes. i think of the animals, with fly bitten ears (when i had dogs who lived outside during the day they would get nasty sores) and the fleas that bother them.....

Having been near eaten alive by animal fleas (they don't prefer animal blood over this poor soul's!) and bed-bugs (hotel the cause!) I've wondered myself why they're here.

My religion has made me a thoughtful, reflective, tolerant individual who realises they all have a place on God's earth BUT if they get me again I wonder if I'll feel so generous!

Hi Sparkly, while I respect that this is your opinion I don't agree with it, basic good manners cost nowt and get you so much further in life.

There are certain niceties in life, that certain politeness, which characterises civilised behaviour.

Saying 'please' and 'thank you' shows that we are not taking others for granted and should be added to our actions - the one complements the other.

its not what you say, but what you do.
have you never heard of the smiling assassin? plenty people out there who talk nice and do nasty! civilised to me is not spreading disease ( ie washing yourself), having compassion and trying to help where you can.
my husband and i have emulated decency, in the ways that count. i think maybe now you have a picture of me as a lout. i assure you the opposite is true.
it is true that please and thankyou cost nothing, but if they aren't followed through by your actions, your intent, they mean nothing. in fact to someone like me, in that instance, they are offensive.

Hi Sparkly, not at all , from the little I know of you I know you to be a good and decent person, it's very true that some very polite respectable people are complete monsters behind closed doors, it is a mask for some, but not all.

Just to put my pennies worth in,I agree with what is said.
I have met a few smiling devils in my lifetime. So nice on the outside but evil on the inside.
My grandmother was a fan of the Royal family but not of the Queen mother, don't get me wrong,I think most of them are pretty ok too.
I remember as a child, saying how nice the Queen mother was and my gran said 'You mean, the smiling devil!'.
I was shocked when she explained that Queen mother was very nice on the outside but not so nice on the inside.

It was common knowledge that she was a bit of 'old witch' when she was younger.
Always smiling for the public but not that nice indoors.
Will give her,her due though, she looked after King George very well, she was devoted to him.
